The 2 basic colours of birthmarks, blemishes and pigmented lesions are red and brown.  Brown marks are caused by excess pigment (melanin) in the skin. These lesions can be present at birth or can develop as a result of exposure to the sun.  For example, Café-au-lait patches or,’age spots’ on the back the hands.

Red birthmarks and lesions are caused by an excess of blood vessels close to the surface of the skin.  For example, strawberry birthmarks and spider veins.

what is included in the free consultation?

Your free of charge consultation will last for approximately 30 minutes and gives you the opportunity to come in and talk to one of our experts about the treatment process and what it involves.  It also allows us to look at the area you want treating and give a more accurate idea as to the likely number of treatments involved and potential cost.  You can ask any questions you may have in relation to the treatment, we'll also show you some before and after images of other treatments that have been carried out.  You can then go away and make an informed decision as to whether you wish to proceed with treatment.  Whether you decide to go ahead or not, the consultation is completely free of charge.

how does the treatment work?

We have a selection of lasers to suit your specific skin concern. The Cynosure Cynergy laser with the latest Multiplex technology is superbly effective for treating larger birthmarks such as port wine stains. The laser delivers very short pulses of light energy, which are absorbed by the red pigment within the blood cells. This causes the vessel walls to collapse and the red colouring is broken down within the skin. There is no damage to the surrounding skin. The treatment dramatically fades and removes birthmarks and blemishes with virtually no scarring.

will it hurt?

You’ll feel a mild burning sensation. Discomfort is minimal. Customers describe the feeling as ‘like the ping of an elastic band’ on the skin.

how many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will depend on the type and size of lesion. A free consultation with a member of our expert team will provide the opportunity to assess your skin condition, carry out a test patch and determine how many treatments will be needed.

do I need time off work?

No, you can resume your normal routine straight away.  However, some treatments can cause bruising and slight crusting that may last a few days.  If this was likely to occur the nurse or doctor would discuss this with you prior to treatment. We recommend that you apply a high protection sunscreen after any laser treatment.
