Milia are very small, white superficial cysts (1-2mm in diameter only) that protrude above the surface of the skin.  They most commonly occur on the cheeks and eyelids. They can appear spontaneously.

Milia don't appear to be related to different lifestyles or diets and are certainly not infectious or caused by poor hygiene, but often people with this condition would rather have them removed giving them a clearer complexion.
