At Good Skin Days we have an expert practitioner who specialises in the treatment of leg thread veins. Leg thread veins are small ‘broken’ capillaries that occur in both men and women. They are caused as a result of pregnancy, hormonal changes, and occupational factors such as excessive standing, and also may be hereditary. The vessels can be unsightly and cause dull aching in the legs.

what do we do?

At Good Skin Days our specialist practitioner will assess your legs during a free of charge consultation. She has the experience and knowledge to assess whether you may need to see your GP first, this would be necessary if you have varicose veins that require surgical intervention.

Usually it’s straight forward and you can go ahead with your first treatment. At Good Skin Days our practitioner uses a treatment called micro-sclerotherapy to treat this concern. A tiny needle is inserted into the vessel. The capillary is injected with a solution of strong sterile saline which irritates the lining which irritates the lining of the vessel causing it to swell and stick together. The vessel shrinks and is absorbed in the tissue. The vessels fade from view. It is only possible to treat the small capillaries not the larger blue vessels.

what is included in the free consultation?

Your free of charge consultation will last for approximately 30 minutes and gives you the opportunity to come in and talk to one of our experts about the treatment process and what it involves.  It also allows us to look at the area you want treating and give a more accurate idea as to the likely number of treatments involved and potential cost.  You can ask any questions you may have in relation to the treatment, we'll also show you some before and after images of other treatments that have been carried out.  You can then go away and make an informed decision as to whether you wish to proceed with treatment.  Whether you decide to go ahead or not, the consultation is completely free of charge.

what is micro-sclerotherapy?  

Micro-sclerotherapy is a simple, non-surgical treatment that removes leg thread veins. We use a very fine needle to inject a solution into the leg thread veins causing them to perish. For best results, we recommend a course of 4 to 6 treatments with a gap of 4 weeks between each treatment.

how many treatments will I need?

During your consultation you will be advised as to how many treatments will be required. Each appointment is 30 minutes. Generally one injection is needed per spray of interconnecting vessels, but multiple ‘capillary networks’ are treated during  your appointment. It is not uncommon to have a series of treatments if your condition is extensive.

will it hurt?

The needle we use is so small, all you’ll feel is a tiny pricking sensation. When the solution is injected, you’ll feel a mild burning sensation for just a few seconds. Most of our clients say the treatment is very comfortable. If you have any concerns, we can apply an anaesthetic cream.  

what do I have to do after treatment?

A cotton roll is taped firmly over each network of treated vessels. You will be advised to keep this in place for 3 days after treatment. The dressing applies pressure to the treated vessels and this helps the injected solution work more effectively.

how will my legs look afterwards?

When the dressings come off you may have a little bruising or redness.  Sometimes the treated vessels can appear darker at first before they disappear.  

are there any side effects?

Pigmentary changes can occur if the solution leaks out of the vessel, this can cause the skin to darken slightly. It’s important to follow your aftercare advice and keep the dressings in place.

will I need time off work?

No. All we suggest is that you don’t fly or do any strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
